Project Overview
AMOF Fjell Process Technology AS is proud to showcase the successful delivery and commissioning of an advanced sludge dewatering and drying system for Ignis Bio Energy. This project is a strong example of how sustainable thinking and smart process design can turn waste into a valuable resource.
The Solution
At the core of the system is our Disc Dryer AF-TD-170+, a robust and energy-efficient dryer designed to handle challenging sludge materials with high reliability and low energy consumption.
The full process includes:
- Mechanical Dewatering: Sludge is first pressed to remove free water.
- Thermal Drying: The disc dryer then dries the sludge to a dry matter content of 90–95%.
- Energy Recovery: Energy from incineration of the dried sludge, and waste heat from the drying process where dryer vapors is recovered to improve system efficiency.
Successful Commissioning
A major milestone has now been reached: Ignis Bio Energy is successfully running their furnace on dried sludge for the first time. This marks the transition from startup phase to full operation—and proof of concept that sludge can serve as a sustainable energy source.
Circular Economy in Action
What makes this project truly innovative is its integration into a circular value chain. The energy generated from sludge combustion is used not only to dry more sludge but also to heat fish tanks at Gaia Salmon’s aquaculture facility.
This closed-loop system significantly:
- Reduces waste
